Nursery

We offer 15 hours morning (8.30 – 11.30am) or afternoon (12.30 – 3.30pm) sessions and 30 hours for those who are eligible.

We have three start dates during the academic year – September, January and Easter.

30-hour children learning

After making bird feeders in choosing to learn time, the children became fascinated with birds. We decided to follow the children’s interest and planned our 30-hour project around this. The children have made their own binoculars to use in our indoor bird hide and in the outdoor environment. So far we have looked at the features of a bird and some of us took part in the Big Garden Birdwatch. We have been around the school grounds looking for birds. We found magpies, seagulls and pigeons. We are looking forward to learning lots more during this term.

Adverse weather activities

1. Practice your scissor skills and make some snowflakes to hang or stick in your window.
2. Make a snowy picture using different media. Can you work out what is best to use to stick things together? glue, sellotape, Pritt stick
3. Can you find 5 things around your house that you would wear outside in the snowy weather?
4. Put some water in a cup and put it in the freezer. What will happen to it? Why? What will happen when you take it out of the freezer? Will it stay frozen? Why?
5. Ask a grown up to write your name and 2 other names on a piece of paper and stick it on the wall. Can you recognise your name? Look at the letter shapes in your name.

Home Learning ideas

Here is a list of things you can do at home with your grown up:

• With a grown-up join in the words and actions to an action song, perhaps ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’. Do you know any more you could try?
• Practise holding your pencil correctly, remember pick and flick.
• Looking for shapes – Have a walk around, inside or outside, what can you find that is a circle, square, triangle, rectangle?
• Practise putting on your coat and fastening the zip/buttons all by yourself.
• Close your eyes, ask your grown up to make a sound – maybe rustle a bag of crisps – can you guess what the sound is?
• Can you make marks in shaving foam, flour or rice? Draw a circle, square and triangle.
• Snuggle up somewhere cosy with a grown up and read your favourite book together.
